About $4 million in sales and 100,000 copies sold in the first month of release - that was the launch of NBA 2K22
The next game in the well-known NBA 2K franchise - NBA 2K22 - was released on September 9, 2021, and during the first month since its release, about 100 thousand copies of the game were sold on Steam, according to GameSensor’s estimation. In the same time frame, NBA 2K22's sales on the platform totaled nearly $4 million.
But despite these financial results, players evaluated the novelty mostly negatively: the game's rating on Steam is 2 stars out of 5, and on Metacritic - 1.6 out of 10 points. They attributed these scores to poor controls and the similarity of the novelty to the previous game in the series.
The previous game in the series, NBA 2K21, got the same feedback and Steam rating as the new game. If we compare these two games, we can say that the sales of NBA 2K22 and NBA 2K21 for the first month of release are similar, as the games reached almost 4 million dollars in sales each. But it is interesting that over the same period, the number of NBA 2K21 installations was almost twice more than the NBA 2K22 copies sold.
It is also worth noting that among the players who installed NBA 2K22 on Steam, 43% of the audience speaks Chinese. English-speaking players are almost 40%. The rest of the audience speaks Spanish, Portuguese, German, and other languages.
NBA 2K22 is available on PC and the following consoles:
- PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5;
- Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S;
- Nintendo Switch.
Also, all Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play NBA 2K22.
