The survival horror adventure video game The Callisto Protocol by Striking Distance Studios was released on Steam on December 1, 2022. KRAFTON, Inc. took over the publishing duties.
The game takes place 300 years after our time in the maximum security prison "Black Iron" on Callisto, a moon of Jupiter. It is here that the protagonist you play as, Jacob Lee, is serving his sentence. Real chaos begins in the prison when the prisoners turn into monsters. In order to survive, Jacob needs to escape from this place as soon as possible while uncovering Callisto's terrible secrets.
During the first month of its release on Steam, according to GameSensor's estimations, The Callisto Protocol sales amounted to almost $37 million. If we look at the number of The Callisto Protocol copies sold, then during the same period, about 700 thousand users purchased the novelty on the platform.
The Callisto Protocol has received mixed reviews and 5.5 points out of 10 from players on the aggregator website Metacritic. According to them, despite good graphics and sound, the game has unsatisfactory mechanics and poor optimization. Critics on the same site gave the novelty 68 points out of 100, and its rating on the Steam platform is 3 stars out of 5.
For the developer Striking Distance Studios, The Callisto Protocol is the first project on Steam, but for KRAFTON, Inc. it is the 5th game on the platform.
