Sales of Age of Empires IV on Steam in the first month of release, according to GameSensor’s estimation, were almost $35 million. During the same time, the game sold about 1 million copies on the platform.

On the aggregator website Metacritic, players have rated the fourth part of Age of Empires at 7.6 out of 10. According to their reviews, the game failed to receive 10 points because of outdated graphics and poor animation. The critics at the same website gave the novelty 81 points out of a possible 100. The rating of Age of Empires IV on Steam is almost 5 stars out of 5.
